In response to a growing need to provide safe, lifelong homes for farm animals and equines who are too often overlooked or sent to slaughter, Emerald City Pet Rescue opened Ghost Owl Farm in 2021 on the tranquil grounds of Vashon Island.

Today the sanctuary spans nearly 70 acres and offers full-time care and freedom for more than 90 residents from horses and donkeys to goats, pigs, cows and llamas.
Our Mission
At Ghost Owl Farm, our promise is simple: a lifetime of love, dignity and safe refuge for animals who cannot be rehomed. Here they are not waiting for adoption, they’re home. Your support helps us deliver premium medical care, spacious pastures, enriching routines, and kindness in every brush stroke and hay bale.
Our Facility & Approach

Purpose-built barns, exterior paddocks, and sheltered runs allow our equines and farm animals to roam freely and safely in a natural rhythm.

With each resident we prioritize individual needs: from veterinary care and nutrition, to enrichment and time to heal and grow.

Though we do not ride or show these animals they are never tools. They live with dignity and respect, cared for not for what they can give, but simply for whom they are.
Why It Matters
Farm animals and equines often arrive with trauma, injury, or neglect, and all too commonly they face bleak futures. Ghost Owl Farm exists to rewrite that story. By offering a sanctuary rather than adoption path, we embrace the reality that for many, this is their forever home—and we commit to it fully.
