Spirited & wild at heart, Karmello lives in one of our full-time pastures along with his mate Aurora - and he wouldn't have it any other way. Barns and stalls are just too confining for this boy.

In 2020 Karmello and his twin, Ghost, were rescued from a kill pen in Washington state. At just six months old, both horses were severely emaciated & suffering from pneumonia. Sadly, Ghost didn't make it, and we're certain Karmello has carried this loss with him to this day.

Due to his rambunctious nature, Karmello requires top-level handlers, and in the early days he was a very challenging horse for our farrier to work with - but with patience and understanding, he has improved greatly over the years. Trust does not come easily with this horse, and we don't blame him one bit.

While we're unsure of his exact breed, Mr. Karmello Sandman (his full name) is what is commonly referred to as a cremello horse - a rare type of equine with a cream-colored coat, rosy-pink skin, and striking blue eyes. This coloring occurs when a horse has a chestnut base coat combined with two copies of the cream dilution gene. As a result, these horses are very susceptible to sunburn and must wear fly masks with extra UV protection for their eyes.

Despite his arresting appearance, Mr. Sandman is in endless pursuit of looking unkempt - tangling his mane, rolling in the dirt and mud, and smearing his soupy grain all over his face while eating! He also loves to stir things up with the mares in the neighboring pasture - especially his crush, Velvet.
